Spotify is introducing educational for aspiring music makers and audio creatives with the testing of its video-based courses, currently only available to UK users.

The streaming giant is teaming up with educational tech pioneers like BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific, aiming to provide a multifaceted learning experience integrated into its renowned music streaming service.

Spotify’s new video courses cover a broad spectrum of subjects including Music Production, Creative Arts, Business, and even Wellness.

“With roughly half of our Premium subscribers engaging in education or self-help-themed podcasts, we see a tremendous opportunity to cater to our users’ thirst for knowledge,” stated Babar Zafar, VP of Product Development at Spotify. “Our goal is to offer quality content from video course creators that resonate with our highly engaged community.”

The courses, categorized under themes like “make music,” “get creative,” “learn business,” and “healthy living,” feature contributions from artists like Carl Cox and Flava D, imparting invaluable insights into the art and craft of music production.

Now, Spotify users can access educational materials alongside their favourite music, podcasts, and audiobooks, therefore enjoying a holistic environment for personal and professional growth.

Prices for these courses range from £14.99 to £49.00, providing users with affordable access to premium educational content. During the trial period, however, both free and Premium users can sample at least two lessons per course before deciding to make further purchases.

This shift into educational content might represent Spotify’s biggest attempt to diversify its offerings for its users, marking a significant stride towards broadening its product offering beyond streaming, and separating itself from Apple Music, Deezer & Amazon Music. On the Spotify mobile app, UK. users will find course videos in the home and browse tabs.
Once clicked through, users can explore available courses across the four categories before purchasing them on desktop. Once purchased, the courses will be available on mobile and desktop. 
Users can select courses they’re interested in, and upon purchase, start learning, watching on mobile app or desktop.
